Based on the novel of the same name by Mario Puzo, the movie is set in the 1940s and revolves around the Corleone crime family, led by the patriarch Vito Corleone. The story begins with the wedding celebration of Vito Corleone’s daughter, Connie. During the event, Vito’s youngest son, Michael, who had previously distanced himself from the family’s criminal activities, attends with his girlfriend, Kay Adams. Michael, a war veteran and Ivy League graduate, witnesses his father conducting business and interacting with various influential individuals, including other mafia bosses. Soon, a rival gang led by Virgil Sollozzo approaches Vito seeking his support in the drug trade, which Vito vehemently refuses. However, when Sollozzo arranges an assassination attempt on Vito’s life, the aging Don is critically injured, and Michael decides to take matters into his own hands. He kills Sollozzo and a corrupt police captain, Mark McCluskey, who was also involved in the plot. With Vito recovering, Michael becomes more deeply involved in the family business. He takes over as the new head of the Corleone family and gradually transforms into a ruthless and cunning mafia boss. He eliminates his family’s enemies, consolidates power, and expands the Corleone empire, all while trying to keep his actions hidden from Kay, who becomes his wife. As the story progresses, Michael’s actions bring consequences and fuel a violent mob war. Michael’s older brother, Sonny, is killed during an ambush, and his other brother, Fredo, betrays him by aligning with rival families.
