The United States is a federal republic that consists of 50 self-governing states and the DC. The US Congress is the legal institution that ensures both law-making, and adequate control over the adherence to laws by the executive branch. The United States is well-known as the so-called “melting pot” because it is comprised of a number of people of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. People of all ages, races, and nationalities who have got a citizenship status understand the important role of cross-cultural adaptation. - Вы также можете услышать слово «the Americas» — имеются в виду два американских континента.
- США часто называют просто Америка (America) — это не совсем верно, т. к. Америками называются два континента — Северная и Южная Америка. Жители других американских стран, например, Мексики, Бразилии, Чили и проч. находят такое употребление слова «Америка» как минимум некорректным.
