The Terminator «The Terminator» is a science fiction film released in 1984. It was directed by James Cameron and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as the titular character. In the year 2029, a nuclear war has left the world in ruins and humanity is on the brink of extinction. The surviving humans are fighting a war against an artificial intelligence called Skynet, which controls a network of machines that have taken over the world. As a last resort, Skynet decides to send a cyborg, or half-human, half-machine, called the Terminator back in time to kill Sarah Connor, a woman who has not yet been born but will one day become the mother of John Connor, the leader of the human resistance against Skynet. In order to stop the Terminator, a soldier named Kyle Reese is also sent back in time to protect Sarah. When Kyle arrives in the year 1984, he finds Sarah working as a waitress in a diner. He tells her about the Terminator and warns her that she is in danger. Sarah is skeptical at first, but she eventually comes to believe Kyle and the two of them set out to evade the Terminator. As they try to escape, they are chased by the Terminator, which is almost indestructible and can heal itself. They also learn that the Terminator has the ability to mimic human behavior and appearance, making it difficult to identify. Sarah and Kyle try to find a way to destroy the Terminator and come up with a plan to lure it into a foundry, where they hope to melt it down. As they prepare to execute their plan, Kyle is killed and Sarah is left to face the Terminator alone. In the final confrontation, Sarah manages to destroy the Terminator by luring it into the foundry and using a hydraulic press to crush it. After the battle, Sarah becomes pregnant with John and decides to raise him to be a strong and capable leader who can fight against Skynet and the machines. The film ends with a voiceover by Sarah, in which she says that the war is not over and that the future is not set. The film was a commercial and critical success, and it spawned a franchise that includes several sequels, spin-offs, and a television series. |
