The film is a remake of the 2002 Hong Kong film «Infernal Affairs» and is set in Boston, Massachusetts. The film begins with a prologue that shows the early life of Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson), a powerful Irish-American mafia boss in Boston. As a young man, Costello is mentored by an Irish mobster, who teaches him the value of loyalty and the importance of maintaining a network of informants. In the present day, Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a young police officer who is chosen to go undercover and infiltrate Costello’s organization. Billy is a street-smart cop who is struggling with his own demons and is willing to do whatever it takes to succeed in his mission. Meanwhile, Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) is a member of Costello’s gang who has infiltrated the police department as an informant. Colin is a clever and ambitious young man who is determined to rise through the ranks of the mafia and prove his loyalty to Costello. As both men try to maintain their cover and outmaneuver each other, they are faced with difficult moral choices and the constant threat of being exposed. Billy becomes increasingly isolated and paranoid as he tries to gather evidence against Costello, while Colin tries to keep his true identity a secret from his colleagues in the police department. The film’s plot builds to a dramatic climax as both Billy and Colin’s cover are threatened and they are forced to confront the consequences of their actions. The film ends with a series of twists and turns that reveal the true identities of the characters and the true nature of their relationships. |
